Bigfoot and the Bassoon

Every once in a while, I’ll get a message from someone who’s listened to an episode or a season or all three seasons of the podcast. I love it—keep sending me messages. And I especially love it if the podcast has somehow been some sort of inspiration. I once heard from a listener who wrote to say she was going back to school to get her chemistry degree because she liked Season Two so much. 🥰

Anyway, sometime last October, a composer named Kari Cruver Medina wrote to say that she’d been commissioned to write a piece about Sasquatch for a women’s bassoon quartet. (Naturally. No one appreciates woodwinds as much as the Big Guy.) To get in the mood and mindset for composing this piece, she read a bunch of books about Bigfoot and listened to Season One. (She and her husband had also both gone to Washington State, when Grover taught there).

Just last week, she wrote me again to share a link to the quartet’s world premiere performance of this piece. I’m pretty sure Bigfoot would love it.
